Duties and responsibilities:
Periodontists are dentists
that diagnose and treat problems with patient’s teeth, gum, and any related
part of the mouth. They remove decay from teeth and fill in cavities, repair
cracked or fractured teeth and remove teeth, straighten teeth to correct bite
issues, place sealants or whitening agents on teeth, administer anesthetics to
keep patients from feeling pain during procedures, write prescriptions for
antibiotics or other medications, examine x rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and
nearby areas for problems, make models and measurements for dental appliances,
such as dentures, to fit dentist, they teach patients about diets, flossing,
use of fluoride, and other dental care.
Salary: $145,000 - $187,000
Education:
Requirements vary by state,
dentist must be licensed in all states. Most dental students need a minimum of
a bachelor’s degree.
